I finally got around to talking with Trevor over at Seat Cover Centre on Whyte Ave. He regularly orders and installs Katzkin covers, and has years of experience.

In my case, I told him I'd pull the seats from my car and bring them to him and he'd install the covers and heaters. I'd do the wiring and switch installation. For this it would cost about $280.

If someone wanted to bring him the car and have him do the whole thing, it would be around $350. I didn't find out what discount would be involved if there were no seat heaters. Feel free to call him directly if you want his help with the installation.

Jarman Mazda no more...now Landmark Mazda

Just happened to catch today's Hicks on Six column in the Edmonton Sun to find out that Jarman Mazda is no more...having been bought and moved.

VROOM, VROOM

Heading into the annual Edmonton Motor Show next week, Edmonton auto dealers have emerged from their 2009 industry turmoil remarkably unscathed. Sales overall in the Edmonton area were flat last year. But these days, "flat" is excellent. The General Motors re-structuring meant some 240 dealerships across Canada were closed, but we lost just five in this area -- Stedelbauer Chev, Saturn West, Grove Pontiac in Spruce Grove and Murray Chevrolet in Leduc.

Stedelbauer principal Ron Gibson bought and moved Jarman Mazda into the Stedelbauer building on 97 Street, re-naming it Landmark Mazda. Grove Pontiac is now Grove Motor Products. Welcome Ford in Fort Saskatchewan...

Internet Movie Cars Data Base (site address below) is one cool site where you can spend a lot of time. They like you to "join" (free) in order to participate. I've found it to be kind of fun. Don't forget to look at the comments section under each picture - sometimes other subscribers leave their comments about the cars, and even additional pictures of the car in that movie. Of course you can make your own (appropriate) comments.

You can also type in the name of a movie and see all of the cars that appeared in that movie (sadly they didn't have the movie "Running Brave" so I couldn't get to see a picture of my ex-MG TD).

A likely departure would be April 5 with a bit of slack time built in for weather-related contingencies / diversions, and then a quicker drive home...say three-ish days, so April 5 to 14.

Cost per day is a lot cheaper than the Porsche Club of America lapping day that Ron went to this past August, which was $395 for five 20-min sessions...this one's $250 for the same (which you can do for two days @ $500 or one @ $250).

In the November issue of Classic & Sports Car there's a blurb about the company K Sports Cars (www.amxastonish.co.uk).

The AMX Astonish kit, designed in Australia by Misha Lebedev, turns the Mk. 1 MX-5 into a baby Aston Martin lookalike.

The kit requires no mods to the donor shell, but at 5900 British pounds, it isn't cheap.

Hi guys
I have some new sheet metal to weld in for my rear rocker panels. I thought I would invite whoever wants to come by and observe, and/or offer suggestions.
Let me know which weekend is best, and if Saturday or Sunday is preferred. Right now, I'm thinking that Saturday Jan. 16 will work for me but I'm open to suggestions.

Stayed in and cleaned the house (how could I argue with Brenda's logic)? My one foray outside to throw out the garbage and plug in the car(s...the second as a back-up) was needless to say, quite chilly.

Just wondering for those that drive in -30C. (Cameron, do not read this as it will give u a laugh). With our current temperatures of around -30C, do you put gas line anti-freeze in your fuel tank as a deterrent against the gas line freezing or do you use it only after the gas line has frozen? Do you feel that gasoline(even the cheaper outlets) have sufficient anti-freeze additives in them already? Does over use of gas line antifreeze harm the engine?

Which is not exactly true because yesterdays snow storm, wind and the remnants of it today prevent me from driving around and being a snow plough or a stuck snowplough. Perhaps somebody might design and build an adjustable suspension Miata/Mx5(upwards in this situation) and if they really wanted to go the extra mile, a 4 wheel drive would put the icing on the cake. Cameron, do not read this as the Alberta advantage has been temporarily lost!

Hey guys, I'm just wondering if someone has a local MegasquirtPNP I can swap for 5 minutes or so. I bought a mildly used MSPNP and when I finally got around to installing it, its not powering up. I was hoping I can swap mine for a quick test to verify if the unit is dead.

I can bring my unit to someone instead of them chasing me if that would be preferable.
