Where is everyone taking their Mazda's now that Abbey Road has closed?? Is there another shop that offers reasonable prices and quality work?? I have a
friend in Edmonton who needs to do the 96K service (including timing belt) on his Protoge5...
Thanks, Cameron '99 Twilight Blue Mica |

coincidence...... | ||

Funny you mentioned that as I approached Cochrane Automotive(CAR) about my Miata for its next checkup. Wanted to find out if they could find out where the
rattle was coming from after my Harddog rollbar was installed somewhere else. The owner said that his wife used to have a Miata.
Am reluctant to go to Weber as it is on the south side and so far. Good but expensive. The previous owner of my '99 recommended Weber Motors and ask for Richard F. Cochrane is walking distance for me but gives no discounts! Probably go to CAR in about 2-4 weeks. Hope this helps Guy A. |

Well, try to see if you can get a club discount out of Cochrane Automotive! Could benefit you immediately and the club after that!
I know numerous people who take their car to Weber Motors and are happy with the service. I, however, took my car there once and they did the exact same thing that I told them the last service shop did - which was not tighten the oil cap (it came off during a memorable return drive from Kelowna one year with the club). I've also had a bad experience with Richard F when my girlfriend was wanting to purchase a new Mazda... That being said, my dad used to have great service when they were a Volvo shop as well... Does anyone have any other ideas?? |

next time I am there......

Yes Cameron, I understand your thoughts re club discount but have never taken my '99 there before to CAR(Cochrane Automotive Repair). However my '99
can be the guinea pig and if I am happy with the results, then I feel that I can recommend them and then I can push for the WRM discounts. Previously over the
years, I have taken my '99 Chrysler van AWD(gone now thank goodness) and my 2005 X Trail. Have been happy with the maintenance on them. Chrysler van was a
monthly regular there. CAR is located at 142 st and 118 ave.

Cameron wrote:Frankly, no. As to Weber Motors, Richard Flannigan is the Sales Manager, and has no influence on Service, as that's Malcolm MacPherson. The nice smiling face you'll deal with though is Lee Moore -- Doug Moore's (of Abbey Road Automotive) wife. I just had an oil change there two weeks ago. Granted, I have no idea if they actually poored in my four litres of Mobil-1 oil or not...as I was unable to watch my service, as you always could at ARA. At this point I have no real ideas on where / where not to get a service or any other work done. There are likely just as many WRMC club members who are happy with a particular dealership as there are unhappy...and there are certainly some that I'd never use. We'll see where things fall...but Jim Berg, also formerly of Abbey Road Automotive is now the Service Manager at Jarman Mazda...if that gives you any more confidence in them.

Unless something has changed in the last week or so, Jim Berg is the service Manager at Jarman Mazda. I was talking to him when we had our Mazda 3 in for an oil change. |

Six years of great service!
|
I have had good success, for over six years now, with Park Import Automotive. 157-51308-Range Road 224, which is two range roads east of HWY 21 and three
driveways south of Wye Road. Mark Munson is the mechanic. Very fair rates and absolutely honest. I have had him work on my Toyotas, my Subaru and my Miata.
His phone number is 780-922-4515. Elroy |

Unfortunately a bit too far from me to be practical. I am half way between Stony Plain and Calahoo!
Any suggestions around Stony Plain or Spruce Grove area? Stuart

C.A.R and my Miata.....
|
Just thought I would let you know that I took my '99 Miata to Cochrane Automotive Repair at 118Ave. and 142nd st. for the first time and had satisfactory
results with them doing the 72,000 kms. check. I did give him a copy of the Miata Musings(minus the members' list and phone numbers because of privacy
issues). I left it with him and he said he would look it over but gave no commitment about discounts:\.
I asked him if the "boys" liked working on Miatas and apparently they do not mind which is a good sign. I prefer not to go to the dealers as I find they are quite a bit more expensive(they have to pay for the courtesy limos etc.). For me it is walking distance to CAR in the Westmount area and they have always been reliable and fair. For anybody interested their number is 452-5001. If you are reading this Rod, nothing major has gone wrong in the last year, just a loose deadfoot and a loose panel in the rear wheelwell. Just for anybody's info Greg at CAR works on anything except Porsches. They have worked on our family's cars for about ten years now>D. Hope this helps anybody. Safe driving this winter. Cheers, Guy. |

It sounds a bit hit and miss right now...
Where are people going for their servicing now then? I'd like to know... Is Jarman good to go to then? Or are they to expensive etc. ? |

I have been using Sundance for my service, right from day 1. They have gone over and above as far as servicing my '99. There have been several instances
where I should have been charged over $100.00 for some things [ and got charged $0 ]
Some things in life are priceless......For everything else there's Tequila!
